Supply and Optimization

Tesoro’s Supply and Optimization (S&O) group is responsible for acquiring and transporting raw materials to the company’s refineries and distributing finished products to our marketing group and end consumers.

The S&O group procures and safely transports over 500,000 barrels per day (BPD) of crude and other raw materials from around the world to supply our refineries. We purchase domestic crude oil in Montana, Wyoming, Utah, Colorado and North Dakota at the lease level. See our Crude Bulletins for Tesoro’s domestic crude oil pricing information.

The S&O group also buys and sells over 250,000 BPD of finished products to supply our marketing system and other end consumers.

The group is responsible for safely operating crude and clean products pipelines, product terminals, trucking and a marine shipping fleet. In addition, the group manages rail operations to support the movement of Liquified Petroleum Gases (LPGs) and products within the Tesoro system. We also maintain terminaling agreements with nearly 50 third party terminals to provide our customers with finished products.

Our marine operations have been recognized as leaders in the industry in environmental stewardship and have twice received the Legacy Award from the Pacific States/British Columbia Task Force for environmentally sound operations.
